About IPv6Now



IPv6Now Pty Ltd is a company founded in July 2007 to provide services and training in IPv6, the new Internet Protocol. Since then we have passed a number of significant milestones:

  • 2007 Aug – IPv6 web hosting service became internally operational.
  • 2007 Nov – We launched the first Australian IPv6-only commercial website hosting service.
  • 2007 Dec – We contracted to supply and support Hexago (gogo6) Gateway6 brokers.
  • 2008 Apr – We implemented forward & reverse Dynamic DNS support for IPv6 tunnels.
  • 2008 Apr – The IPv6Now tunnel broker began providing commercial IPv6 tunnels with Service Level Agreements – a world first!
  • 2008 Jun – Our web hosting service became available on dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 servers.
  • 2008 Sep – We implemented full redundant multi-homed IPv6 transit connectivity.
  • 2008 Nov – We are contracted to build the VIC6 Testbed Network.
  • 2009 Feb – The first VIC6 node went live with transmissions between the PPS NOC and Ballarat.
  • 2009 Mar – The StudentNet collaborative environment based on IPv6 is launched.
  • 2009 Oct – IPv6Now was selected by Freenet as the Australian PoP for Freenet6.
  • 2009 Oct – We implemented Single Sign On administration for StudentNet IPv6 tunnel accounts.

Our Personnel

IPv6Now consists of people who have worked in the Internet world for many years, with a broad spectrum of experience covering business, research, law, consulting, Internet services and nitty-gritty technical provision.

Tony Hill image Tony Hill, Managing Director
Tony Hill has nearly two decades of experience in linking research to commercial and other community outcomes, particularly through more advanced approaches to research management. In 1999 he established his own consulting business, Capital Hill Consulting Pty Ltd, to help foster improved approaches to cooperative research projects. In 2007 he jointly founded IPv6Now Pty Ltd to support uptake of the next generation of Internet technology, having been President of the Internet Society of Australia since 2001. He was chair of the Australian National ICT Industry Alliance from 2005 to 2007 and is chair of the Australian IPv6 Summit Steering Committee.
Kevin Karp image Kevin Karp, Director and Business Manager
Kevin Karp, B.E.(Hons), B.Sc, GradDipSIA, is the founder and Managing Director of PPS Internet. He has over 25 years of experience in board level commercial management of ICT and investment industry enterprises. In 1995 PPS established Semper.Net, one of Australia's first Internet managed services networks. In 2007 Kevin negotiated and directed PPS's acquisition of StudentNet, Australia's oldest schools education network, and jointly founded IPv6Now. He is a founding member and Secretary of the Internet Society of Australia, a Senior Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).
Karl Auer image Karl Auer, Technical Manager
Karl Auer, BA(ANU) GDAC(CQU), has worked in IT for well over twenty years. He founded one of the first and largest Internet Service Providers in the Australian Capital Territory. He was the founding Vice President of the Internet Society of Australia. He has extensive experience in analysis, design, programming, network support, network administration and network management, including five years at the Australian National University and eight years with the Data Communications group at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Karl is also a director of Nullarbor Consulting Pty Ltd.
Kate Lance image Kate Lance, Communications Manager
Kate Lance, BA BSc PhD (Astronomy, ANU), has worked in Internet technology for twenty years as a Unix system administrator. She was System Manager and Director of Internet Services at the pioneering ISP Connect. She helped found the Internet Society of Australia and was its Executive Director from 2002 to 2006, which led to her involvement in IPv6. She also creates websites and writes award-winning maritime books – a history of the charmed life of a pearling lugger in Redbill: From Pearls to Peace, and a biography of Alan Villiers, the Australian maritime writer and photographer, in Alan Villiers: Voyager of the Winds.
George Fong image George Fong, Project Facilitation Manager
George Fong, BA (CNAA) Law, Barrister-at Law, Lincoln's Inn (UK), Advocate and Solicitor, Supreme Court of Singapore. After practicing shipping and admiralty law in Singapore, George moved to Australia in 1997 to lecture at Ballarat University. He co-founded NetConnect Communications, one of the first regional ISPs in Australia and has over 20 years of IT experience in teaching, management and consultancy, focusing on regional telecommunications. He is a director of Lateral Plains which specialises in online services and server hosting. George regularly presents on regional IT issues, and has a weekly radio slot on regional ABC radio.
Mike Biber image Michael Biber, Professional Services Manager
Michael Biber is founder and current President of the IPv6 Forum in Australia and was Chair of the AARnet IPv6 Working Group. During 1998-2005, he was the Executive Director of the Advanced Networking Forum Australia (ANFA), which managed the MPLS Forum, ATM Forum and Frame Relay Forum representation in Australia. He has led strategic architecture projects for large, complex carrier and enterprise network solutions, ranging from regional/rural broadband networks to dedicated government and enterprise networks throughout Australia and internationally. Michael is IPv6Now's specialist in customised IPv6 services and training.
